Becomes NC State’s first offensive lineman honored since 1979
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State offensive tackle Joe Thuney was named a first-team All-American today by USA Today. In being named, Thuney becomes the first NC State player to earn All-American honors as an offensive lineman since Jim Ritcher in 1979.
"I would like to say thank you to my coaches, teammates, family and friends, and all of the Wolfpack community," said Thuney. "This honor isn't just about me, but the guys on the team and especially the offensive line who battle day in and day out. It's truly an honor, and I couldn't be be more humbled and thankful and excited."
Last week, Thuney was named a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA).
A graduate student from Centerville, Ohio, Thuney finished ACC play with no sacks allowed this season and was consistently the Wolfpack offensive line's high grader. He played every single snap versus ACC competition this season (except for a take-a-knee snap at the end of the Wake Forest contest).
A first-team Academic All-ACC performer in 2014, Thuney was the first Wolfpack offensive lineman to earn first-team all-conference honors since 2003.
