RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team has released its 2016 spring schedule, as announced by head coach Jon Choboy Wednesday.
The schedule features 17 home matches, two ITA tournaments and a challenging Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schedule.
NC State will open the season Jan. 17 with a doubleheader, facing Elon at 10:00 a.m. and The Citadel at 2:00 p.m.
The next weekend, the Wolfpack will make the short trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., for ITA Kickoff Weekend, as it faces Drake on Jan. 23. The following day NC State will play either Indiana or North Carolina in the draw.
If the Pack earns two wins at the ITA Kick Off Weekend, NC State will advance to the ITA National Team Indoors Championships slated for Feb. 12-15.
After ITA Kickoff Weekend, NC State travels to Stillwater, Okla., for a matchup against Oklahoma State Feb 2. The Pack will then host three matches ahead of the ITA National Team Indoors, taking on Dartmouth, Bryant College and South Carolina.
NC State concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule with four matches in four days at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. NC State will play UNC-Wilmington Feb. 25, Texas Tech Feb. 26 and host Old Dominion and UNC Greensboro in a double header Feb. 28.
NC State has 12 ACC matches. Home matches against North Carolina, Duke and Notre Dame highlight the Pack's schedule, while trips to Virginia, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech will test the Pack in the toughest tennis conference in the NCAA.
Last year, the Pack upset Wake Forest at home, but fell narrowly to in-state foes North Carolina and Duke on the road.
Postseason play begins with the ACC Championships, which return to Cary, N.C., April 21-24.
NCAA competition starts with regionals from May 13-16, and the NCAA Championships, which includes team, singles and doubles championships brackets May 19-30 in Tulsa, Okla.
Last year the Pack returned the NCAA Championships for a program-record 4th consecutive year. The team dropped a 4-3 decision to Tulsa.
