The team simulated the intrasquad as though they were at an away meet
RALEIGH- In preparation for the 2016 competition season, the NC State gymnastics team held its second intrasquad of the year at its practice facility inside Carmichael Gymnasium.
Â
Due to the renovation of Reynolds Coliseum, the Wolfpack will compete in 10 meets on the road during the regular season. To prepare for the situation, the squad competed as though it were on the road. While wearing official uniforms (leotards) the gymnasts competed on bars first, followed by vault, floor and beam.
Of the Wolfpack's roster, the team has 12 returners, including four seniors. The program added two to its squad in the fall, and will welcome two more in January.
Â
NC State was recently picked 27th in the 2016 NCAA Preseason Poll, and second in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) preseason standings. The Pack will open its season in 22 days when it travels to Penn State Jan. 9. The meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start.

Senior Michaela Woodford
Thoughts on today
"I thought this one went really well. It was probably even better that the last one and everyone's getting excited about the season. Everyone saw this one as more of a meet because the season is so close now, and worked really hard today to stick landings and overall perform to the best of our abilities."

On intrasquad simulating a road meet
"Doing the rotations like we're on the road definitely helps. It's a lot different to go from beam to floor versus floor to beam. Our legs are more tired when we do floor before beam and have to adjust to that situation, so it was great we practiced that way."

Freshman Maggie Tamburro
On preparing for first season at NC State
"I think I felt a lot more of the pressure as though it was an actual meet. In just eight practices from now we'll be traveling to our first meet, so it was a lot more realistic. I feel like I'm getting more comfortable under pressure with the team and I know the team supports me no matter what happens, so I'm feeling more confident in my routines."
Â
On thoughts of team performance today
"I definitely think that individually we're all improving. It's hard because there are a few holes among out team right now, but I thought everyone really stepped up. The fact that we looked really good today speaks highly of our team and what we can do this year."
