Opening Statement:
"I think it's interesting that Malik had 17 points and nine rebounds. I would say he could really play a lot better. He's such an athletic and aggressive guy, I think he could pressure on a defense so many times. Plus he's a good foul shooter, so if he can get to the line, he may have some nights this year where he could shoot 12 to 15 free throws. He was good today. Overall, I think the team is good. We got to play everybody. We got the jitters a little bit, but they settled down and it ended up being a pretty good day for us."
On Cody Martin playing forward:
"Again, we need everybody. Lennard (Freeman) as you could see today, you know he's getting there, but he's not all the way turning himself loose just yet coming back from his injury. It looks like he's holding back a little bit. But you know Cody (Martin) is valuable for us. We can play him as a backup point guard, he's gonna play some forward, I think he's a tough matchup at times. He helps us defensively, we switch a lot with him on the floor. I like it a lot and we'll see how we progress."
On Abu having more room to operate down low when you play small ball:
"You know, he got better last year as the year went on and I think he's going to get better right from the start this year. Again, I think he's so quick and so athletic that he's going to be a handful for some people. Forwards are going to have to learn how to guard him without fouling because he's a good foul shooter. He's made a big step from last year to this year."
On things to prepare for 5 days before the start of the season:
"We are tired of looking at each other and we've guarded each other a bunch it's nice to see someone else. You look out there and you're trying to figure out if a guy will go right or go left and what kind of player he is. We scheduled good teams and we play William & Mary Friday. They got players back, they shoot the '3' well, so today was good help to get ready for that."
On Caleb Martin's confidence after hitting two '3s' early on:
"I thought it was good. Maybe he got a little too confident because he pulled up on the break, at the top of the key for a '3'. He's a confident guy and I want him to be confident and I want him to feel like he should be aggressive. It was nice the way he started."
On Abu calling himself an underrated shot blocker:
"Deceivingly, he'll block some here and there. I don't think that he can do it as well as Beejay Anya, but I think he can at times. He's getting better, he's so athletic, once he learns to really settle in and play he's got a chance to be a great player."
On expectations for Terry Henderson after tonight's game going into the season:
"I think Terry was good today. I want more from him. He's got to step up and be a little more aggressive. He's such a nice person sometimes that he defers a lot and we want him to be aggressive and look for his shot a little bit more. I think that will come with time."
