CARY, N.C. – NC State cross country alumnus Stephen Furst won the men's race, by a convincing 25 seconds, and all of the Wolfpack's runners finished top-10 in their respective races at the Three Stripe Invite on Saturday.
Men's Race:
Furst led the entire race on his way to victory. He had a slight lead at 2,000m and increased that lead over the remaining 3,000m to cross the finish line in 14:56.49.
True freshman Ben Barrett ran unattached and finished second in 15:21.84. Jack Hagood earned a top-three finish for the second straight year, taking third in 15:23.27. Aaron Thomas ran unattached and finished fourth in 15:25.10, while Kyle Christ finished eighth with a time of 15:43.66.
Women's Race:
Olivia Enright led the Wolfpack with a second-place finish in the women's race, crossing the finish line in 18:05.96. A trio of NC State runners trailed closely behind Enright. Rachel Bartolomeo, Esther Fisher and Megan Vaughn all crossed the line in the top five. Theresa Enright rounded out NC State's women's entries, finishing seventh in 18:40.31.
Despite the mud and rain, which hindered the pace of the race, Theresa's time marks a 20 second improvement from her first race of the year.
Bartoloemo, and Vaughn have now earned top-15 finishes in two of the team's last three races. The duo finished 12th and 15th, respectively at the Wake Forest Invitational a few weeks ago.
Up Next:
The program turns its attention to the NCAA Southeast Regional. Both top-10 teams will aim to finish in the top-two spots that guarantee entry into the NCAA Championships. The regional is set for Friday Nov. 13th.
