NC State men's soccer landed Zach Knudson on the all-conference second team, and Julius Duchscherer on the all-freshman squad
NC State's Zach Knudson and Julius Duchscherer earned all-conference recognitions, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Knudson earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team at midfielder. Julius Duchscherer garnered a midfield spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Duchscherer's mention marks the third-consecutive year that NC State has boasted an ACC All-Freshman honoree. Knudson pulled the feat in 2014, following Travis Wannemuehler's inclusion in 2013.
Knudson represents the second All-ACC Second Team selection under the watch of head coach Kelly Findley. Nazmi Albadawi made the second team in 2013.
Over the last five seasons, the Wolfpack has accumulated eight all-conference mentions.
In 2015, NC State's 2-3-3 record against teams with an RPI in the Top 25 owes a great deal to Knudson's prowess. The sophomore leads the team with 15 points, the majority occurring when State needed them most. Knudson scored the goal of the year in NC State's 1-1 draw with Notre Dame, a bicycle equalizer that's since tallied 88,061 views on YouTube, making it perhaps the most watched play in college soccer this year. Knudson assisted Caleb Duvernay on the game-winning goal against Boston College. On October 13 against nationally-ranked South Carolina, Knudson poured in three points to engineer a 2-1 comeback victory.
Julius Duchscherer deserves credit for setting up Knudson's amazing bicycle kick, one of his two assists on the year. Second on the team in scoring, Duchscherer's 12 points helped the Pack to a 6-1-2 home record. The freshman from Germany contributed an assist in his first college match, and the game-winning goal three days later against College of Charleston. Goals against Duke, Syracuse, Wofford, and App State round out an impressive freshman campaign for Duchscherer.
NC State awaits an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Bracket selection scheduled for November 16 at 1 PM.
