Men’s Tennis Heads to UNCW Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team is sending four student-athletes to the UNCW Invite slated to run Friday through Sunday, as it continues the fall season. Michael Ogden, Ian Dempster, Chris Mikrovas and Shoti Meparidze will represent the Pack in the four-team tournament.
Last Time Out:
All four recently completed at the NC State Fall Invite. Each player saw three full days of action. As a team, they recorded nine singles wins.
Ogden won the first two matches of his career at the home tournament. The redshirt freshman defeated Ethan Bates of Redford and Nikhil Mannepalli of Radford in straight sets.
Dempster followed up his ITA Carolina Regional Doubles Title with a pair of main-draw wins last weekend. Dempster has had a busy fall season, playing in a combined 15 doubles and singles matches in the past two weekends.
Mikrovas made his career debut, winning a doubles match and two singles matches. He dropped his first match of the tournmanet, but rebounded to win two of his final three matches. Mikrovas will continue to build towards the spring season in his second tournament of the year.
Meparidze had a strong tournament, winning three of his four singles matches – the most of any Wolfpacker. The sophomore has also had an exceptional fall in singles play, winning eight of his last 12 matches.
On Deck:
The UNCW Invite features host UNC-W, USC Upstate, Tulane and NC State. Teams will compete in doubles and singles each day. Instead of the traditional fall format, teams will compete together against other teams to simulate the spring season. Matches are slated to begin Friday at 10 a.m. The tournament will conclude after singles play Sunday.
