FINAL RESULTS
WILMINGTON, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team set a school record Sunday at the Landfall Tradition, firing an 18-hole team score of 279. All five players shot par or better on the day, highlighted by Rachael Taylor and Leonie Bettel each firing a score of 68.
Sarah Bae finished Sunday's round with a 1-under par 71 and Laura Kowohl and India Clyburn each shot 72. Kowohl, Taylor and Bettel each tied for 24th in the 96-player event at the Country Club of Landfall.
NC State's previous team record for 18 holes was 280, which was achieved twice in the spring of 2014. The Wolfpack shot 280 at the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee that year and also in the final round of the 2014 NCAA Championship in Tulsa.
Taylor, the team's lone senior, tied her career best with the 4-under 68. She also shot 68 at last year's NCAA Raleigh Regional at Lonnie Poole in Raleigh.
"I played steady golf today. The fairways and greens are key here," Taylor said. "I was patient and let the putts drop as I went along. Today was a great day. We are very happy to finish the fall on a high and beating a school record. Everyone hung in there and finished strong. Go Pack!"
Sunday's score of 279 was a 32-shot improvement from the Pack's 311 showing on Saturday. The Wolfpack started the day in 12th place before the record performance. After the final round, NC State had climbed the standings all the way to sixth place.
Duke won the tournament by 11 shots over runner-up Notre Dame. Four of the top seven teams in the 18-team tournament represented the ACC. Wake Forest placed seventh, just one shot behind NC State. Clemson (10th place), Virginia (12th) and UNC Chapel Hill (14th) also competed in the field. Michigan State's Sarah Burnham shot a 66 on Sunday to claim individual medalist honors. Burnham was 5-under for the weekend and held off Ashley Holder (UCF) and Katelyn Dambaugh (South Carolina) by one shot.
Sunday's round concluded fall play for NC State, which will be back in action at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Feburary.
