Men’s Tennis Opens NC State Invite

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State kicked off its 12-team fall tournament with a pair of doubles matches and a singles match for each competing player on Friday. NC State got off to a strong start in singles, and gained valuable doubles experience, while testing new pairings.
Shoti Meparidze opened the tournament with a strong start, winning two out of his three matches on the day.
Doubles:
The Pack's newly minted doubles teams faced stiff competition on the opening day. Ian Dempster and Michael Ogden dropped two close decisions to opponents from Radford and ECU in the red draw.
In the white draw, Meparidze and Chris Mikrovas split a pair of matches on the day. The duo opened with a win over a pair from Tennessee Tech before dropping a second-round match to UNC-G.
Singles:
In singles play, The Pack rolled out to a promising start, as Ogden, Dempster and Meparidze picked up victories.
Meparidze grinded out a three-set win over George Washington's Chait Kapukiran. The sophomore fell behind after the first set, but won, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Also in red singles draw action, Dempster won in dominating fashion against ECU's James Ling, 6-1, 6-3.
In the grey draw, Ogden took down Ethan Bates of Radford.
Mikrovas dropped his first collegiate tennis match, 7-6(5), 6-3, to Campell's Lukas Schaefer.
