Wolfpack breaks program record in air rifle, smallbore and total team score
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The NC State rifle team put together a record-breaking performance Saturday afternoon to open Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) competition with a #STATEment win at Navy. The Wolfpack charted a total team score of 4654, shattering the previous program record by 21 points (4633).
Navy (2-1, 0-1 GARC) fired a total team score of 4620, which allowed NC State (7-0, 1-0 GARC) to claim the win by 34 points. The Wolfpack also registered a school-record score of 2350 in the air rifle competition, breaking the previous record by 14 points (2336).
NC State was not satisfied with only setting a program record in air rifle; however, as the Pack as broke the school's previous best in smallbore with a 2304 clip, besting the prior mark by two.
Wolfpack shooters claimed the top two spots in the air rifle and smallbore disciplines. Junior Lucas Kozeniesky claimed the top spot in both with a program best 594 in air rifle and score of 584 in smallbore.
Senior Daniel Cliff was second in the air rifle competition with a score of 590, while classmate Alex Martin and sophomore Caitlyn Ford tied for fifth at 583 to round out the Pack's counting shooters.
In smallbore, Martin finished second with a score of 581 and sophomore Derya Pekari tied for fourth with a total of 571. Ford charted a 568 and freshman William Marciniak was the Wolfpack's final counter and tallied a score of 565.
The Midshipmen recorded a score of 2328 in air rifle and 2292 in smallbore.
NC State will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31, when it travels to Charleston, S.C., to take on Nebraska and also compete in the third South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match of the year.
