GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NC State women's basketball team will host Michigan on Thursday, November 29 in the 2018 installment of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference league office on Monday.
NC State and Michigan will be meeting for just the third time in program history. The series is split evenly at 1-1, with the Wolfpack claiming an 81-64 win in Raleigh in the NCAA Tournament on March 17, 1990. The Wolverines earned their win in the series in Ann Arbor, Mich., by a final score of 63-52 in the ACC/B1G Challenge on Dec. 5, 2008.
Michigan earned a 23-10 record during the 2017-18 season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Baylor. The Wolverines lose leading scorer Katelynn Flaherty (22.9 points per game) to graduation but return second leading scorer Hallie Thome (17.4). Michigan is coached by Kim Barnes Arico, who will be entering her seventh season at the helm of the program in 2018-19.
NC State enjoyed a tremendous 2017-18 season, winning 26 games and returning to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. The Wolfpack posted a 16-2 record on Kay Yow Court that included two NCAA Tournament victories. The achievement of going 16-2 at Reynolds Coliseum marked the second best home record in 44 completed seasons of Wolfpack basketball.
In home ACC action during the 2018-19 season, NC State will host rival UNC-Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Duke, 2018 national champion Notre Dame, Miami, Clemson, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech.
