GREENSBORO, N.C. - Alexis Galarneau and Tadas Babelis of the No. 24 NC State men's tennis team were named to the 2018 All-ACC Men's Tennis Team, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.Â
Galarneau earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row, claiming a spot on the First Team for the first time in his career. Babelis was named to the Third Team in his first collegiate season.
During the 2017-18 season, Galarneau posted a 14-12 record and played all 21 of his dual singles matches at the No. 1 spot for the Wolfpack. Currently ranked No. 42, he picked up 10 singles wins over opponents ranked in the national top 110 and remained ranked in the top 45 for the entirety of his 2017-18 campaign, reaching a career-high No. 16 singles ranking twice during the season. A sophomore from Laval, Canada, Galarneau also made program history in the fall as he became the first Wolfpack men's tennis player to advance to the quarterfinals at the ITA All-American Championships in October. On Wednesday, he received a bid to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships.Â
Galarneau also recorded an 18-9 mark in doubles competition, pairing with Michael Ogden for the majority of the season. The duo tallied six doubles victories in conference play and took down two ranked opponents this season.
Babelis, a freshman from Vilnius, Lithuania, joined NC State for the start of the spring semester and made an instant impact in the Wolfpack lineup. He went 15-9 in his first season with the Pack and earned wins in six conference matches. Babelis clinched four of NC State's matches during dual match play, including the team's exciting 4-3 road victory at then-No. 22 Tennessee.Â
In doubles, Babelis tallied a 14-6 record. He and Georgiy Malyshev won a team-best nine conference matches on the way to establishing a 9-2 doubles record in ACC play. The pair ended the season going 9-1 over their last 10 completed doubles matches.Â
