CHICAGO – Dr. Michelle Joshua, who serves as the Director of Sport Psychology for NC State Athletics, has been brought on board U.S. Soccer's High Performance department and will work with the Women's National Team as it looks to qualify for the 2019 Women's World Cup in France.
Joshua has worked with the Wolfpack's women's and men's soccer programs at NC State over the last five years.
"I'm thrilled for Michelle to get this opportunity, but she's deserving and worthy of this honor," said NC State women's soccer head coach Tim Santoro. "She's been an influential part of our program and now the highest level of women's soccer in the world will experience what NC State already knows."
"Michelle has served our student-athlete population with distinction, so we celebrate this honor for her," said NC State Director of Athletics Debbie Yow.
Joshua will begin her stint June 1 and will attend training camps leading up to the World Cup in the summer of 2019.
In the fall the USWNT will take part in the eight-team CONCACAF Women's Championship, and is slated to play its first three matches at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., Oct. 4, 7 and 10.
"I am humbled and consider it an honor to be able to join the U.S. Women's National Team. I'm excited for the challenge to help a team of this magnitude be their best," said Joshua. "I have no doubt this journey will sharpen my skills towards our efforts to best serve our student-athletes at NC State. I am thankful to our administration for their support."
