#PackCamp Profiles Practice 4: Cornerbacks

Raleigh – "Now on that last one .. BOOM BOOM! (he shuffles right), BOOM BOOM! (he shuffles left) Square up and close!"
That was Assistant Head Coach for Defense/Cornerbacks Coach George Barlow advice, as he demonstrated the footwork and technique that will be required to shut down the nation's top receivers, while a hungry and eager-to-learn group of cornerbacks watched during NC State's fourth practice of fall camp.
On the Wolfpack's final day before donning full pads, Barlow and the cornerbacks did not allow the heat to deter their enthusiasm, splitting time between walkthroughs, individual drills and seven-on-seven scenarios during the two-hour session.
One of the new (old) faces on defense this season is Jonathan Alston, who redshirted 2016 after playing as a receiver for his first three years. Alston has looked solid at his new position so far in camp, and his determination to compete for playing time was obvious.

Along with thriving in the individual drills, Mike Stevens showed why he played more snaps than any other defensive player in 2016 during the seven-on-seven, making life difficult for the Pack's talented receiving core.

With full pads coming on tomorrow and the level of physicality set to increase, Barlow ensured the cornerbacks footwork will be sharp and tackling technique will be precise, as some great receiver-cornerback matchups lie ahead in the coming days and weeks.

In tomorrow's edition of #PackCamp Profiles, we spend time with the running backs and see how they're getting better this preseason.
