COLUMBUS, Ohio –Sophomore James Brady competed at the USA Diving National Championships today, advancing to the semifinals at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Center. He qualified in 11th place in the senior men's 10-meter platform with a score of 273.00, then finished the semifinal in 16th place with a score of 241.00
"We approached this event with one goal, and that was testing where we are in our year plan," said head diving coach Yahya Radman. "That means that his skill work needs to show development and his technique in 'high pressure' situations needs to be reliable. Essentially, developing a strategy for what to do between dives. Certain elements of the dive still need to be developed and we understand what needs to be done in the next phase of training. Obviously the result isn't ideal, but our process is focusing on ACC competition, the NCAA Championships, and trials for international competition. As this was the first national competition after Rio, there wasn't anything on the line, which made it a perfect opportunity to hone his competitive skills and find weaknesses in his armor to strengthen."
NC State divers will now return to campus to prepare for the NCAA season, which kicks off in September with the Wolfpack Games.
