Selected in the first round (ninth overall) by the Mavericks in the 2017 NBA Draft, it came as no surprise that Dennis Smith Jr. would be the centerpiece of Dallas' summer squad. The 2017 ACC Rookie of the Year led the Mavs in points (17.3), assists (4.2) and steals (2.2) per game throughout the tournament, where Dallas reached the semifinals and finished with a 5-1 record overall. Following the tournament, Smith was named to the All-NBA Summer League First Team.
Smith clogged the stat sheet in the Mavs' 88-77 victory over the Phoenix Suns, tallying 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win. He followed that performance with a 16-point, five-assist effort against Miami to help clinch a first round bye for Dallas in the league's playoffs.
Squaring off against two top-15 draft picks in De'Aaron Fox (7th overall pick, Kentucky) and Justin Jackson (15th overall pick, North Carolina), Smith posted another 25-point outing and grabbed seven boards as the Mavs eliminated the Sacramento Kings, 83-76.
In the league's semifinals, Smith went head-to-head with the No. 2 overall selection, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball. The Fayetteville, N.C. native dropped 21 points for Dallas in the loss, including a thunderous slam that generated plenty of buzz on Twitter Sunday night.

Cat Barber (Guard - Dallas Mavericks – Orlando Pro Summer League – July 1-6)
Anthony "Cat" Barber started in all five games for the Dallas Mavericks at the 2017 Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League, helping lead the Mavs to a perfect 5-0 record on their way to a league championship title. The former First Team All-ACC performer logged just over 21 minutes per game, shooting at a 41.2% clip from the field and scoring 8.2 points per contest. His best Summer League performance came in Game 1 against the New York Knicks, where the Hampton, Va. native put up 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.
Lorenzo Brown (Guard – Detroit Pistons – Orlando Pro Summer League – July 1-6)
Lorenzo Brown, a former Second Team All-ACC honoree for the Wolfpack, saw half of his shots go down as he shot an impressive 50% from the field over five games at the 2017 Mountain Dew Orlando Pro Summer League. The fifth-leading scorer for the Pistons, he averaged 7.8 points per game while grabbing 3.2 rebounds per contest. Brown turned some heads in the league's championship game after he threw down two posterizing slams against the Dallas Mavericks.
C.J. Williams (Forward – Minnesota Timberwolves – Las Vegas Summer League - July 7-17)
C.J. Williams, a key member of NC State's 2012 Sweet Sixteen squad, signed on with Minnesota for the 2017 Las Vegas Summer League. He was the Timberwolves' second-leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points over 25.3 minutes per game including a 19-point effort in the first round of the league's playoffs.
Williams' greatest highlight from Summer League action came in Minnesota's 78-76 double-overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors, where he drove into the paint and banked in a floater from six feet to win the game.
