Transfer from Air Force to join Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State rifle head coach Keith Miller announced the addition of Kendra Jacobs, a transfer student-athlete from Air Force Academy, to the program for the 2017-18 season on Monday afternoon.
Â
"We're excited to add Kendra to the Wolfpack Rifle Family," said Miller. "She's a real team player who we expect to contribute immediately. With her strong background and good fundamentals, I'm sure she'll excel amidst the fierce competition within our team.Â
Â
"With a small team like ours, the dynamic to push each other to be better by first improving your own performance is critical to reaching our team goals. I think Kendra will fit right in with this model, while at the same time fully supporting her teammates, just as they support her. We're all really excited about the team chemistry that this synergy should yield."
Â
A native of Trent, South Dakota, Jacobs joins the Wolfpack after spending her freshman season at Air Force Academy. She appeared in two matches with the Falcons in her rookie campaign.
Â
Jacobs helped Air Force set a school record against TCU by firing a season-high score of 586 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore for an aggregate total of 1165. She notched a perfect series of air rifle in that match and was perfect in the prone position of smallbore against the Horned Frogs.
Â
As a decorated athlete during her prep career, Jacobs broke the National Rifle Association (NRA) National Junior Record in the four-position BB gun competition in 2012 and still owns a share of the record.
Â
She began competing in rifle four years ago with performances at the Winter Air Gun Championships and South Dakota Junior Smallbore matches. From there, her interest in the sport has flourished as Jacobs concluded her prep career ranked 11th nationally in the air rifle competition.
Â
Jacobs has taken part in several USA Shooting Junior Olympics and USA Shooting Rocky Mountain Championships. Outside of rifle, she was also a standout soccer player and helped lead West Central High School to consecutive state championships in 2012 and 2013.
Â
Additionally, she was team captain in gymnastics, participated in dance, choir and was a member of the FFA and National Honor Society.
Â
NC State finished the season ranked ninth in the country, just one spot shy of earning a bid to the NCAA Championships as a team.
