Christian Salzer Qualifies for 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship

Rising sophomore earned medalist honors in sectional qualifying

SANTEE, S.C. – Christian Salzer of the NC State men's golf team has qualified for the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
The rising sophomore shot a 66 to earn medalist honors at the Santee National Golf Club, defeating runner-up Nick Willis of Wofford by one stroke. Salzer and Willis are the only two players from the field of 67 who qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, which will be played July 17-22 at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas.
During his freshman season (2016-17) at NC State, Salzer competed in six tournaments and 17 total rounds, averaging 74.4 strokes per round. He earned one top-10 finish throughout the season, tying for sixth at the Heel/Pack Individual Tournament. All six of his rounds in team tournament competition counted towards the Wolfpack's overall team score.
