Wolfpack TE/FB coach and special teams coordinator Eddie Faulkner is in Orlando, Fla., this week after being selected to participate in the NCAA Champion Forum. Faulkner is one of eight minority coaches nationally chosen for this unique professional development opportunity.
Attendees gain a realistic view of the role of a successful college head football coach and the preparation necessary to become one. They are meeting in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention.
"One of the most gratifying parts of being a head coach is watching your staff develop and advance in their careers," said NC State head coach Dave Doeren. "Eddie is very deserving of this opportunity and IÂ know that he will be an excellent head coach one day."
Faulkner, a member of two Big Ten Championship teams as a player at Wisconsin, has been on the Wolfpack staff since 2013 and been successful in all of his roles during his tenure at NC State. He has coached preseason All-American Jaylen Samuels, who ranks sixth in school history with 31 career touchdowns. In addition, the Wolfpack special teams have posted top 10 marks in school history in kickoff and punt returns under his guidance, and in 2015 was one of just two teams to finish in the top 20 in kickoff and punt returns among FBS schools.
Â
The participants in the forum simulate the interview process, a core part of the curriculum. Additionally, they engage key decision makers in college sports, including university presidents, directors of athletics, conference commissioners, current and former head coaches, and search firms.
