Compton Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar

 NC State softball's Alyssa Compton was named a 2017 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar for her outstanding achievements on the field and in the classroom.

The Irvine, Calif., native recently wrapped up her junior season on the field, starting all 56 games at shortstop for the Wolfpack. She tallied 42 hits, including five doubles, and turned in 11 multi-hit games. Defensively, she boasted a team-high 151 assists along with 96 putouts.

Compton, who was named to the fourth team, is a Sport Management major and holds a 3.23 grade-point average.

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Award recognizes outstanding minority young men and women who have distinguished themselves in their academic and athletic pursuits.
