NC State Baseball Earns 8-4 Win to Clinch Series with #22 Florida State

Seven different batters tallied a hit in the game for NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State bats erupted for 13 hits and freshman Michael Bienlien remained unbeaten on the mound in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, as the Wolfpack earned an 8-4 win to clinch the series with No. 22 Florida State Sunday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park.
Bielien made his second start in ACC action and delivered another strong performance pitching six innings to record his second career victory. He limited Florida State to just three hits, allowing two runs which came on one swing of the bat.
The Chesapeake, Va., native outdueled his counterpart in Seminoles freshman starting pitcher Drew Parrish, who allowed seven runs to take the loss. NC State freshman Dalton Feeney came on late in the game to register his first career save and seal the win for the Pack.
"I love the way this team competes," said head coach Elliott Avent. "We bounced back after a tough game on Friday to win yesterday and today to clinch the series, so there are a lot of positive things happening with the team.
"I thought Bienlien was incredible today."
For the second consecutive game, NC State (18-15, 7-8 ACC) turned in a big first inning as the Wolfpack scored four runs to grab a 4-0 lead and never trailed. The Pack improved to 14-3 on the year when scoring the game's first run.
Josh McLain ignited the Wolfpack offense with his ACC-leading 17th double to left center and Brad Debo walked before NC State recorded three consecutive RBI hits with two outs. Evan Mendoza drove in the first run of the game with a single to right center and Joe Dunand followed with a double to left field.
Brett Kinneman plated the other two runs in the frame with a single to right field, allowing Mendoza and Dunand to score to extend the lead to 4-0. Dunand and McLain have each reached base safely in eight consecutive games.
In the third inning, Dunand crushed his team-leading 11th home run over the left field wall to extend the Wolfpack advantage to 5-0. The junior got ahead in the count and then put a good swing on a 2-0 pitch.
Both teams plated two runs in the fourth, as Drew Mendoza hit a two-run homer for Florida State and Will Wilson had a two-RBI double for NC State to maintain to the team lead in multi-RBI games with 11.
The Wolfpack added a run on a wild pitch in the sixth and the Seminoles tried to mount a late rally but NC State held on for the win.

NC State returns to action at home Tuesday night against UNCG. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park.
