Raleigh, N.C. – NC State cornerback Jack Tocho was a seventh round selection of the Minnesota Vikings, and seven picks later former teammate running back Matthew Dayes was selected by the Cleveland Browns.
In Friday's second round, safety Josh Jones was picked by the Green Bay Packers.
Â
The Pack has had a string of success recently of sending cornerbacks into the NFL, as NC State now has four CBs selected in the last five NFL Drafts (Juston Burris in 2016, Dontae Johnson in 2014 and David Amerson in 2013).
Â
A 2016 team captain, Tocho was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl following the season. Tocho started 36 games during his Wolfpack career, and played in 49 overall. He recorded six career INTs, and 122 total tackles. He was a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William Campbell Trophy – given to football's top student-athlete, and was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.
Dayes is the first Wolfpack running back drafted since Andre Brown was a fourth round pick of the New York Giants in 2009.
Â
Dayes was named the Wolfpack's MVP in 2016, and was selected to play in the Senior Bowl following the season. A second-team All-ACC performer, Dayes was the Wolfpack's first 1,000+ yard rusher since 2002, as his total of 1,166 was the second-most among ACC running backs and the sixth-best season total in school history. Dayes finished his NC State career fourth all-time with 2,856 career rushing yards and third in career rushing touchdowns (34) and total touchdowns (40).
