
Ipsen, Zevnik Named ACC Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athletes of the Year

NC State places 11 on All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Anton Ipsen and Alexia Zevnik of the NC State swimming and diving team have been named the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athletes of the Year, as announced Wednesday by the conference. The Wolfpack also had 11 student-athletes earn All-ACC Academic honors.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, established in September 2007, recognize the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports each year. 
Ipsen, a junior majoring in industrial engineering from Birkerod, Denmark, earned All-ACC recognition at this past year's championship meet after finishing first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 1,650 freestyle. At the NCAA Championships, he tallied two top-eight finishes in his respective events, earning him All-America status in both. He was an outright CSCAA All-American in the distance events while earning honorable mention All-America accolades for the 400 individual medley. Ipsen is also a two-time CSCAA Academic All-America honoree.

Zevnik, a biological sciences and business administration major from Lasalle, Canada, collected three individual gold medals (100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley) at the ACC Championships in addition to earning gold in the 400 freestyle and 400 medley relays and silver in the 800 freestyle relay. Zevnik continued her success at NCAA's where she was the Wolfpack's top-scorer, earning two top-10 finishes. Her performances earned her the 2017 Most Valuable Women's Swimmer award at ACC Championships. She is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, earned All-America honors in four different events and was recently awarded as a Postgraduate Scholar.

Additionally, Kayla Brumbaum, Natalie Labonge, Hannah Moore, Rachel Muller, Lotta Nevalainen, Alexia Zevnik, Soren Dahl, Ryan Held, Anton Ipsen, Justin Ress and Andreas Schiellerup were named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
Both Labonge and Zevnik are four-time honorees while Dahl, Held, Ipsen and Schiellerup each earned their third honor.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
