RALEIGH – The NC State women's basketball team has added Grace Hunter to its roster, ACC Coach of the Year Wes Moore announced Wednesday. Hunter is transferring from Charlotte and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Wolfpack after sitting out the upcoming 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Â
"Grace Hunter is a passionate, high-motor player," Moore said. "She has good size and is able to get to the rim. She's a great rebounder. Her three-point shooting is very solid, and it's something she has worked hard on. As is the case with most dynamic scorers, she is able to score in a variety of ways. That is what makes her tough to match up with, because she is definitely not a one-dimensional player. We are excited to bring her back home to Raleigh and get her here at NC State."
Â
Hunter is a 5-9 guard and Raleigh native who attended Athens Drive High School. She led the 49ers in scoring (17.2 ppg.) and rebounding (8.6 rpg.) during the 2016-17 season, helping Charlotte to a 21-10 record which included a 12-6 mark in Conference USA action. She led the 49ers in scoring 12 times during the season and led the team in rebounding on 14 occasions. She was also the second most accurate shooter on the team, hitting 192 of 401 (.479) attempts while tying for the team lead in 3FG accuracy at 24-67 (.358).
Â
As a freshman during the 2015-16 season, Hunter earned 17 starts in 31 games and was awarded a spot on the All-Conference USA Freshman Team. She was voted Conference USA Freshman of the Week a school-record five times throughout the year while averaging 11.0 points (fourth on team) and 7.3 rebounds (second on team) per game.
