Â
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track and field team will send athletes to the Florida Relays and Stanford Invitational this weekend. Both meets will feature elite competition, as athletes look to lock up top regional and national marks.
Â
A group of throwers, jumpers and sprinters will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays, while distance specialist Sam Parsons will represent the Wolfpack in Stanford Calif., at the Stanford Invitational.
Â
The meets have historically produced fast times. Last year, Jonathan Addison (long jump), Nicole Chavis (discus) and the Pack's 4x400 team all qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary from the Florida Relays. In 2015, Erika Kemp and Joanna Thompson posted top-10 regional 10,000m marks at the Stanford Invitational.
Â
What to Watch For:
Joshua Davis, Lauren Evans and Alyssa Dunn will represent the Wolfpack throwers, competing in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw. Kimani "KC" Hoffman will compete for the Pack in the men's long jump and Christopher Garrick and JaTory "JT" Reid will line up for the men's high jump to round out the field events.
Â
On the track, NC State sprinters will compete in the 100m hurdles, 100m, 400m and 4x400 events, as Cravont Charleston, Junpai Dowdy, Abdur Rahmaan Kelly, Sam Krehnbrink, Dylan Peebles, Dejah Arnold, Gabriele Cunningham, Tiana Patillo and Lauren White make the trip for the Wolfpack.
Â
At Stanford, Sam Parsons will look to improve on his personal best in the 10,000m. Parsons ran a 29:11.08 at the 2016 Raleigh Relays for the sixth-fastest 10,000m time in school history. The mark set a PR that led him to the NCAA East Preliminary. He advanced through the regional and concluded his season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Last Time Out:
NC State hosted the Raleigh Relays last weekend, welcoming over 100 schools and nearly 200 athletes to Paul Derr Track. The Pack had success on its home track, as several athletes posted nationally-competitive times and marks. Additionally, members of the team sealed their spot in the postseason with ACC qualifying marks.
Â
Entering the weekend, NC State has 26 marks in a regional qualifying position and 12 marks in the top-25 of the national standings.
Â
Follow Along:
The Florida Relays will be broadcast on ESPN3 via the SEC Network Plus and the Stanford invitational will be carried through Flotrack.
