
Track Begins Outdoor Season at Carolina Relays

RALEIGH. N.C. – The NC State track and field team is set to open its outdoor season this weekend at the Carolina Relays. The meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Irwin Belk Track at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Competition:
NC State will compete against host North Carolina, along with Campbell, East Carolina, Manhattan, North Carolina Central and UNC Wilmington.

What To Watch For:
The meet will be the final competition at Belk Track, which was built in the 1930s. NC State is sending almost 40 athletes, headlined by recent Weight Throw First-Team All-American Joshua Davis. Davis will compete in the hammer throw and shot put. Tiana Paillio, a 2015 DMR First-Team All-American, will look to lead the 4x400 relay squad, while 2017 All-ACC selections, Cravont Charleston (4x400), Christopher Garrick (high jump), will compete in their respective events.

The Pack will have six athletes making outdoor debuts in a Wolfpack uniform. Hannah Stokes is set to compete in the javelin throw, returning to action for the first time since January. Kimani "KC" Hoffman, who transferred to NC State in August, will compete in the triple jump, long jump and 100m. Redshirt freshman Kyle Christ will line up in the 3,000m and true freshmen JaTory "JT" Reid (high jump), Nicole Teague (long jump, 100m) and Lauren White (long jump, 4x400) are slated to compete outdoors for the first time in their collegiate careers.

Abdur Rahmaan Kelly, who recently set the school's 800m indoor record will lineup in the outdoor 800m. The 800m outdoor school record of 1:50.0(h) has stood since 1977.

The Wolfpack wrapped up its indoor season last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Davis led the way after earning First-Team All-America honors in the weight throw, and Erika Kemp, Megan Moye and Rachel Koon earned Second-Team All-America honors in their respective events.
