RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team continues a home stretch at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center this Sunday with a match against No. 12 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
Â
NC State enters the match with a five-match winning streak, while Oklahoma State holds a 4-0 record.
Â
Scouting the Cowboys:
Oklahoma State recently earned a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with two wins at their ITA Kickoff Regional. The team downed No. 22 Columbia before sweeping No. 14 Kentucky 4-0. The team features seven returning upperclassmen from a team that hosted an NCAA Regional and advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Tournament last spring.
Â
The Oklahoma State duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe is ranked No. 5 in the latest ITA poll, while Lukas Finzelberg leads the Cowboys in the singles ranking at No. 30. Cash rounds out the singles rankings at No. 41.
Â
Last Time Out:
NC State won a doubleheader two weekends ago, defeating Elon 7-0 and Monmouth 5-2 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to extend its winning streak to five-straight matches.
Â
Horton, Galarneau Compete at Palm Coast:
NC State senior Nick Horton made his way into the main draw of the Palm Coast Futures tournament with three straight wins in the qualifying draw last weekend. He downed all three of his opponents in straight sets before ending his run in the main draw.
Â
Alexis Galarneau also competed in the qualifying draw and advanced to the second round of the competition.
Â
Record Watch:
Horton has won at least 20 matches in each of his first three years with the Pack. He's already up to 10th in school history in total singles wins with 73. Horton can move up the ranks in program history this season. His 75th win will move him into a tie for eighth place in all-time singles wins.
Â
Pack In The Polls:
Both Horton and Galarneau were selected to the first ITA/Oracle singles poll of the spring season. Horton checked in at a team-high No. 37 to move up two spots from his fall ranking, while Galarneau began his freshman spring campaign ranked No. 103.
Â
On Form:
Igor Saveljic moved to No. 3 in the Pack's singles lineup and is the only player on the roster to hold an undefeated record this spring. Saveljic is 6-0 on the year and has won his last five matches in straight sets. Georgiy Malyshev, the Pack's No. 4, also has a hot hand with five-straight singles wins. The two are up to 11 combined wins between the fall and spring season.
