Davis Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

The redshirt-senior set the top-four men's weight throw marks in the country this past weekend at the JDL College Kick-off Classic.

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Wolfpack All-American Joshua Davis has been selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Men's Division I National Athlete of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
A redshirt-senior from Pelham, N.C., Davis posted a nationally dominant weight throw performance this past weekend at the JDL College Kick-off Classic. Progressing with each throw, Davis notched distances of 71' 7.5" (21.83m), 72' 2" (22.00m), 72' 4" (22.05m) and 76' 3" (23.24m). The 76' 3" toss broke Davis' own all-time NC State record by nearly four feet and also set the JDL Fast Track facility record.
Compared across all meets at all levels (NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, etc.) from the opening weekend, Davis' throws were the top-four marks by a collegian in the entire country. If Davis used his biggest throw from this past weekend at the 2017 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, he would have won the national title.
