Â
LAST MATCH
NC State dropped a difficult 1-0 decision to No. 5 UNC-Chapel Hill Friday evening in front of a large crowd at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The Wolfpack mustered a late rally of three shots on target during the final 11 minutes of the match, but a 40th-minute penalty converted by the Tar Heels proved to be the difference in the contest.
Â
The Tar Heels (10-1-0, 4-0-0 ACC) controlled a majority of the possession in the first half but were stymied time and again by solid defending and three important saves from freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf. They took a 1-0 advantage in the 40th minute via a controversial penalty call in which freshman defender David Norris was judged to have brought down a Carolina forward in the area. Cam Lindley stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty to give the hosts a 1-0 lead which they would carry for the rest of the contest.
