Shanklin Shines at ECU; Greengrass, Bartolomeo go 4-5 for #PackXC

True freshman Ian Shanklin placed second individually in his collegiate 8K debut. Rebekah Greengrass and Rachel Bartolomeo led the Wolfpack women with fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The NC State cross country program had 11 athletes competing as individuals at the ECU Pirate Invitational Friday evening at the Lake Kristi XC Course. True freshman Ian Shanklin earned an individual runner-up finish in his collegiate 8K debut, posting a time of 24:10.37 as he ran unattached. On the women's side, Rebekah Greengrass and Rachel Bartolomeo finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Freshmen Izzy Carron and Janay Hall raced unattached at the meet. Hall placed 10th overall with a 22:22.99 performance, while Carron posted a mark of 22:32.48 in her collegiate debut for 14th place.
Gavin Gaynor, also racing unattached, was the next NC State athlete to finish as he placed 21st after clocking in at 25:18.06. Brendan Johnson was the first runner in uniform across for the Pack with a 25:27.66 performance, good for 24th place at the meet.
Kyle Christ and Eric Walz each made their season debuts at ECU, crossing the line almost simultaneously with times of 26:13.37 and 26:13.97, respectively. Christ's mark of 26:13.37 was a personal-best by seven seconds. Noah Graham, running unattached, was the final finisher for the Wolfpack contingent with a 26:50.54 clocking in his first college 8K.

Greengrass, a redshirt-sophomore, was the first Wolfpack athlete to cross the line at East Carolina. The Cary, N.C. native ran her fastest collegiate 6K with a time of 21:47.22. The Pack will now turn its attention to the ACC Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27.
