RALEIGH, N.C. - As the NFL playoffs get underway this weekend, six former NC State football players are on rosters of teams with hopes of finishing the season with a Super Bowl victory on Feb. 5 in Houston, Texas.
For the fifth straight season playing together, QB Russell Wilson (2008-10) and PK Steven Hauschka (2007) have once again led the Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs. Wilson completed 353-of-546 (64.6%) of his passes during the regular season, for 4,219 (10th-best mark in the NFL) and 21 touchdowns. Hauschka was seventh in the NFL in scoring (127 points), as he converted 33-of-37 field goal attempts. The Seahawks are the No. 3 seed, after winning the NFC West with a 10-5-1 record, and will host Detroit on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
In his fourth NFL season, CB David Amerson (2010-12) will be making his first playoff appearance. In his first full season with the Oakland Raiders, after signing a four-year $38 million contract in the offseason, Amerson started all 15 games he played in and finished the regular season with 64 tackles, a pair of interceptions and 16 passes defended. The Raiders, making their first playoff appearance since 2002, clinched one of the Wild Cards in the AFC with a 12-4 record, and will play at Houston on Saturday at 4:35 p.m.
The second Wild Card spot in the AFC went to the 10-6 Miami Dolphins and DE Mario Williams (2003-05). Williams was limited in the regular season to 13 games and five starts, and posted 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Williams will be making his second playoff appearance (Houston 2011). The Dolphins will play at Pittsburgh on Sunday at 1 p.m.
A pair of rookie #PackPros helped the New England Patriots to a first round bye, as the Patriots won the AFC East with a 14-2 mark and earned the No. 1 seed awaiting their first game next week. QB Jacoby Brissett (2014-15) and OG Joe Thuney (2012-15) both saw action in their first season in the NFL. Thuney started every game at guard for the Patriots, and Brissett started the third and fourth games of the season before missing a majority of the season with a thumb injury.
