Down 35-17 with 5:01 remaining in the second quarter, the Wolfpack would use a 10-0 run over the remainder of the half to pull within eight points (35-27) at the halftime break. Trailing 61-45 at the end of the third quarter, NC State used a 15-4 run over the first 3:58 of the fourth quarter to pull within five points (65-60). The Tar Heels responded, hitting four three-pointers in less than four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Quotes from the Wolfpack
NC State head coach Wes Moore's opening statement: "You've got to give Carolina a lot of credit. They shot the ball unbelievably well. I think someone said this was their program record with 14 threes. They shot 58 percent from three in the game and 69 percent in the second half. That's pretty tough. On the other hand, of course, we did have a chance to guard them and didn't quite get that done. I'm proud of our kids: we dug a hole again but battled back and cut it to five points, forced 24 turnovers and collected 18 offensive rebounds, so we did a lot of good things. Lots of hustle plays, but it just wasn't enough today."
NC State continues its three-game road trip at No. 9/8 Louisville on Thursday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the KFC Yum Center.
