Junior posts top all-around mark among conference
BALTIMORE – Thanks to an impressive performance as an all-arounder in the first week of NCAA competition, Chelsea Knight of the NC State gymnastics team was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
A junior from Waldorf, Md., Knight collected four top-five finishes in the Pack's season opener with Florida inside the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum, and set career-best marks in three events. She helped to lead NC State to a meet score of 194.925 to sit at No. 15 in the first Road To Nationals poll of the season.
She placed second on beam (9.900) and floor (9.850), and fourth on bars (9.800) and as an all-arounder (39.350). Her beam, floor and all-around scores are career bests. Her all-around and beam scores were also the highest marks among the league in week one.
In the national individual rankings she is ranked fifth on beam, 13th in the all-around competition and 22nd on floor.
NC State will return to action when it heads to No. 40 Utah State Friday for a tri-meet with the Aggies and 45th-ranked Bowling Green State. The meet is set for a 9 p.m. ET start inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
