
Men’s Tennis Begins Play at James Bonk

CARY, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team opened the Duke James Bonk Invitational with wins in the doubles draw and two singles wins on Friday.
Michael Ogden and Georgiy Malyshev moved to final of the black doubles draw with a pair of wins. The duo defeated Charlotte's team of Sam Rice and Leonardo Menezes, 8-7(4) in the opening round then earned a win over Salvado Mijares and Chris Humphreys in the semifinal round, winning 8-6. The victory is the first for Malyshev and Ogden has continued his strong play in doubles for the Pack, earning his 14th career doubles win.
In the blue draw, Sean Burnette and Igor Saveljic moved to the consolation draw and will play in the third-place consolation match tomorrow morning.
In singles play, both Ogden and Burnette advanced to the quarterfinals with victories in the black draw. Ogden defeated Andrew's DeJoy 6-2, 6-0. Burnette advanced past Radford's Samuel Taylor, 6-3, 6-2.
Malyshev and Saveljic both fell to Blue Devils in the opening round of play. Saveljic went to a pair of tiebreakers against Nick Stachowiak 7-6(3), 7-6(11), including falling 13-11 in the final tiebreak. Malyshev fell to Catalin Mateas in the white draw 6-2, 6-3.
The four will continue play in singles tomorrow.
