Wolfpack defeats Boise State, falls to Arkansas State
FORT WORTH, Texas – The NC State volleyball team completed play in the TCU Invitational Saturday evening with a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Boise State, after dropping a 3-0 decision versus Arkansas State in the first match of the day.
Â
The Wolfpack had a tough slate of matches, as Arkansas State advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season and Boise State won 23 matches in 2015 and was one of the first four teams left out of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
With the split, NC State concludes the weekend with a 2-2 overall record, while Arkansas State is 2-0 and Boise State owns a 1-1 mark.
Quoting Hampton-Keith
Thoughts on the weekend…
"Walking out of a very tough opening weekend 2-2 is quite an accomplishment," said head Linda Hampton-Keith. "We intentionally scheduled a challenging tournament that featured two NCAA Tournament teams to open the season. To play four matches in a weekend and give a gutsy performance to end with a win against a very good Boise State team was impressive. I'm excited about growing from this experience and watching this team continue to gain confidence."
On Erin Chatman's performance…
"Erin provided a key performance for us in the Boise State match. She stepped in when our team was getting fatigued and provided our team with the boost of energy we needed. Her ability to step in and step up was a huge part of a big win for this program."
On her staff…
"Our staff did an exceptional job of preparing us in less than ideal conditions. We had quick turnarounds and had to manage our roster in a way that would maximize our chances to be successful. I thought our entire staff, including our athletic trainer, did a fantastic job in getting the most out of everyone."
