10 More Alumni Make Preseason Debuts
The first weekend of NFL competition was exciting for many Wolfpack fans, as numerous #PackPros took the field.
Offensive Players
Â
Philip Rivers, starting quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, only played one series, but managed to secure a 44-yard touchdown pass within that short time. Rivers was 2-of-3 for 67 yards, a great QB rating of 149.3 for his short day of work.
Â
Fellow quarterback alumnus Russell Wilson started his season Saturday night with the Seattle Seahawks. Like Rivers, Wilson only stayed on the field long enough to complete one possession. He was 3-for-6, but threw an interception to end the drive.
OT Rob Crisp saw action on the offensive line for the Arizona Cardinals in their game against the Oakland Raiders.
Â
Defensive Players
Â
Two Wolfpack alumni, T.Y. McGill and Nate Irving, hit the field together for the Indianapolis Colts' defensive squad Saturday night against the Bills. McGill finished with two tackles and one assist while teammate Irving had one tackle and one assist.
Â
Dontae Johnson made a note-worthy debut for the San Francisco 49ers with a total of 5 tackles against Houston.
Â
Cornerback David Amerson debuted with the Oakland Raiders on Friday night with two tackles against the Cardinals.Â
In his fifth season with the Minnesota Vikings, linebacker Audie Cole managed to complete four combined tackles helping the Vikings to a win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The final defensive Wolfpack sighting came from New York Giants' defensive end Mike Rose, who despite finding playing time, struggled to impact the gamesaw action at defensive end.
Â
Special Team Players
Â
Seattle Seahawks' placekicker Steven Hauschka made an impressive showing, scoring on all three of his field goal attempts. Highlighted by a 52-yard field goal, his nine points helped the Seahawks secure the victory. Â
Â
Season Watch
While they were unable to play last week due to injuries, two #PackPros are expected to have major impacts on the field this season once cleared. J.R. Sweezy, currently out with a back injury, is expected to miss the first five games of the season. Fellow defensive alumnus Manny Lawson, linebacker for the Buffalo Bills, is expected to be back for Week 1.
In total, the Wolfpack has 24 players currently playing for the pros.Â
