NC State baseball had three players selected in rounds 3-10
NC State baseball's Will Gilbert, Andrew Knizner, and Preston Palmeiro heard their names called Friday on day two of the 2016 MLB Draft.Â
The trio gives Wolfpack head coach Elliott Avent a total of 90 NC State players drafted in his 20 years of guidance. With several more still to come on Saturday, the Pack already has 15 taken in the last three years.
Palmeiro went first, selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the 211th pick, a seventh round selection. Knizner followed 15 picks later, a seventh round choice of the St. Louis Cardinals. Only six picks later, Gilbert flew off the board to the Oakland A's, an eighth-round selection, 232nd pick.
With 10 rounds in the books, NC State's Ryan Williamson, Cory Wilder, Joe O'Donnell, Cody Beckman, Karl Keglovits, Travis Orwig, and Johnny Piedmonte await good news Saturday.
