RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's track and field team is set to open the ACC Championships Friday in Tallahassee, Fla. The team will look for contributions from its full squad to score points at the meet.
Â
The Wofpack finished seventh at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships and most recently took seventh at the ACC Indoor Championships. The squad has 14 marks, which rank among the top-10 in the conference standings and 10 marks in scoring position (top-eight).
Â
In addition to scoring points at the meet, several members on the team could move up or into the top-48 in the East Preliminary and cement their spot in NCAA competition. Currently 10 athletes hold regional qualifying marks.
Â
Sprints/Hurdles:
Paisley Simmons and Alexis Perry anchor the women's sprints and hurdles group. Simmons is ranked third in the 100m(11.50) and 18th in the 200m(24.00) and scored points for the Pack in both events last year.
Â
Perry is fourth in the 100m hurdles(13.15) and has scored for the Pack in the event each of her three previous seasons. The senior is also an elite long jumper and a member of the 4x100 relay team that is seventh in the conference.
Â
Gabriele Cunningham and Tiana Patillo are also hurdles and sprints specialists. Both run on the 4x100 team and compete in individual sprints and hurdles events. Cunningham has provided depth for the Pack in the 100m and 100m hurdles and enters the meet with a top-15 100m dash time of 11.74. Patillo will line up in the 400m and 400m hurdles – ranking top-25 in both events. Patillo is a newcomer to the 400m hurdles and has posted a PR in four straight races.
Â
Dejah Arnold also gives the sprinters a boost. She is a member of the Pack's 4x400 team and has PRed in the 400m in her last three races.
Â
Mid-Distance/Distance:
Megan Moye headlines the Pack's distance squad with top-five times in the 800m and 1,500m. She leads the conference in the 1,500m with a mark of 4:15.05 and is third in the 800m with a time of 2:04.93. Moye earned silver in the indoor mile and has set school records this season in the mile and 1,500m.
Â
Esther Fisher and Bethany Neeley will also compete in the mid-distance events. Neely enters with a top-25 1,500m time of 4:28.31.
Â
Alyssa Rudawsky, Rachel Koon and Alexa Harvey will carry the Pack in the distance events. Rudawsky and Harvey are ranked top-10 in the conference in their respective events. Both will also race for regional marks, as they could either move up or into the top-48 East Preliminary standings with strong races.
Â
Rudawsky is 10th in the conference in the 5,000m with a mark of 16:26.27, and Harvey is ninth in the 10,000m with a time of 35:33.61.
Â
Rachel Bartolomeo and Olivia Enright lead the team in the steeplechase. Enright has finished top-15 in the event each of the past two season, and redshirt freshman Bartolomeo is ranked sixth in the event with a time of 10:28.73.
Â
Jumps:
Perry leads the conference in the long jump with a leap of 22'6.75". That mark earned Perry automatic qualification for the USATF Olympic Trials and is currently ranked fourth in the nation. Perry is a former long jump ACC Champion and has medaled in the event four times throughout her career.
Â
Javonne Antoine and Amara Bell will also carry some of the load in the horizontal jumps. The duo is top-10 in the triple jump and top-20 in the long jump. Antoine has scored points for the Pack in the triple jump the last two conference championships and is currently ranked fourth in the ACC with a mark of 41'1.75".
Â
Margaret Edwards is ninth in the conference in the high jump with a mark of 5'8.00" and is just four spots from earning a regional qualifying mark. An improvement on her season best will likely score points for the Pack and earn Edwards a spot at the NCAA East Preliminary.
Â
Throws:
Three-time First-Team All-American Nicole Chavis leads the Wolfpack throwers. The senior holds the conference's third-best mark in the discus(170'00") and is ranked 16th in the hammer(169'10").
