NC State fell 4-3 in a final-finish decision
RALEIGH – It came down to the final finish Friday afternoon, as No. 37 NC State narrowly fell 4-3 to No. 69 Florida State in a hard-fought conference matchup.
Â
At the No. 6 singles, Tayla Stenta found herself in the deciding match after splitting sets with Ariana Rahmanparast 3-6, 6-4. Before forcing a tiebreaker, Rahmanparast answered on the final deciding point to take the set 7-5 over Stenta.
Â
Prior to its singles defeat, the Pack continued to showcase its improved doubles play. Martina Frantova and Stenta were the first finish of the match, downing Daneika Borthwick and Julia Mikulski 6-4. With Bianca Moldovan and Joanna Nalborska up 5-3 in the No. 2 doubles matchup and Amanda Rebol and Claudia Wiktorin leading 5-4 at the No. 3 spot, the Pack point looked promising. Moldovan and Nalborska answered first, capturing a 6-3 win over Gabriella Castaneda and Daniela Schippers to secure the doubles decision.
Â
Nalborska took a second victory over Castaneda shortly after the conclusion of doubles play as she captured the Wolfpack's first singles win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Â
Coming off of a tough loss to the No.1 player in the nation on Wednesday, No. 38 Frantova faced another competitive opponent in No. 39 Borthwick Friday afternoon. Frantova fell 3-6, 0-6 to Borthwick in her sixteenth matchup against a nationally-ranked opponent this year. Frantova still maintains a winning record in the category, now 9-7.
