
Throwers Open Bill Carson Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The NC State track and field team opened the Bill Carson Invitational with a strong showing from its throwers. Overall the group took three top-five finishes and had four scorers. The group also added two ACC qualifying marks.
Joshua Davis led the group with a second-place finish in the hammer and a fourth-place finish in the discus. Davis earned a big PR in the hammer, cracking 200' for the first time in his career with a heave of 207'8". Last year he narrowly missed qualifying for the East Preliminary with a mark of 198'. He is currently ranked 33rd in the nation.
In the discus, Davis took fourth with a throw of 160'3". The mark qualifies Davis for the ACC Championships and just off his PR.
David Rocker also threw for a new hammer throw PR with a mark of 170'6" – good for fifth place and a conference standard.
On the women's side, Nicole Chavis took fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 158'0". The mark is off of Chavis' PR, which is is currently ranked second in the conference.
In the hammer throw, Alyssa Dunn improved over 10' from her first attempt this season, finishing with a mark of 163'9" for seventh place.
