Addison Named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jonathan Addison headlines the 2016 All-ACC Academic Indoor Track and Field Team as the Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. Addison is joined by Erika Kemp, Megan Moye, Grant Rivers, Chris Garrick and Joshua Davis, giving the Pack six All-ACC Academic selections.

Addison's honor completes an impressive indoor-season haul for the senior, who has won almost every conference and regional award possible during his four years with the Pack. He is a four-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team and two-time recipient of the Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year award. He was also named an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient earlier in the year.

He recently completed an impressive indoor season, finishing as the NCAA's national runner up in the long jump. Additionally, the Raleigh, N.C., native earned an Olympic Trials cut, broke the indoor school record, won the ACC Championship in the long jump, was named the ACC Indoor Men's Field Performer of the Year and named the USTFCCCA's Southeast Men's Field Performer of the Year.

Addison is currently his is final season of eligibility, and ranked top-10 nationally in the long jump and a member of the Pack's No. 13 4x100 relay squad.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

The five that join Addison on the All-ACC Academic team accounted for four school records, three All-America honors and five All-ACC honors.

Kemp is making her fifth-straight appearance on the All-ACC Academic team between track and cross country. This indoor season Kemp set the indoor 5,000m school record, earned a pair of All-America honors, took bronze in the 5k at the ACC Championships and was named the USTFCCCA's Southeast Women's Track Athlete of the Year.

Moye is making her second straight appearance on the team. Moye capped off her indoor season as a First-Team All-American in the mile and ACC silver medalist in the event. Moye also broke the mile school record during the regular season.

Davis, Garrick and Rivers are first-time members of the All-ACC Academic Team.

Davis had a strong year as a redshirt sophomore, breaking the school record in the weight throw. During the postseason, he earned second-team All-America honors and won bronze at the ACC Championships in the weight throw.

Garrick had a stellar true-freshman season with the Pack. The high jumper finished fifth at the ACC Championships to earn a spot on the all-conference team.

Rivers finished eighth at the ACC Championships in the heptathlon and broke a school record in the event with 5,039 points.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. The All-ACC Men's Academic Team includes 24 student-athletes that earned All-America and/or All-ACC honors during the 2015-16 season.
