
Ford Selected for Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship

RALEIGH, N.C. – Denae Ford, an NC State track and field alumna has been selected as a 2016 Microsoft Research PhD Fellow. Ford, who was a Wolfpack sprinter from 2010-2014, is currently pursing a PhD in Computer Science and a minor in Cognitive Science.
During Ford's time on the track, she ran in 200m and 400m events and was a member of the 4x400 and DMR relay teams. She holds an outdoor 400m PR of 55.70 and an outdoor 200m PR of 25.31.
Ford Receives Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship
The Fellowship is a two-year program for outstanding PhD students nominated by their universities. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing doctoral degrees in computer science, electrical engineering, and mathematics.
Microsoft Research awarded the Graduate Research Fellowship to 12 individuals nationwide out of 211 applicants. Each fellowship recipient's award will cover tuition and fees for two academic years, a $28,000 stipend to cover living expenses while in school, a $4,000 conference and travel allowance to attend professional conferences or seminars, and an opportunity to complete one salaried internship during the year following the award.
Ford's research is self described as "a blend of Human Computer Interaction and Software Engineering". She is member of the alt code lab, which is guided by Dr. Chris Parnin.
