Wolfpack earns highest finish at the championships in program history
OXFORD, Miss. – The 11th-ranked NC State rifle team turned in a stellar performance at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships to place third among nine teams competing. It was the Wolfpack's highest finish at the event since joining the league in 2007.
NC State finished with a team score of 4651 after firing a program best 2360 in the air rifle competition and a 2291 in smallbore. Top-ranked West Virginia won the championship with a score of 4702 (2367 AR, 2335 SB), while No. 3 Kentucky was second with a 4677 clip (2363 AR, 2314 SB).
Air Rifle Notes
- The Wolfpack's counting shooters in the air rifle competition fired great scores to help the squad break the previous program record of 2354 by six points.
- Lucas Kozeniesky headlined NC State's performance with a score of 593 to finish fifth in the event, while Caitlyn Ford was ninth, firing a score of 590.
- Kozeniesky advanced to the individual finals in air rifle, claiming fourth place with a score of 164.2.
- Derya Pekari charted a score of 589 to claim 12th place and Alex Martin secured 15th with a personal best 588.
- Rounding out the counting lineup for the Pack was Daniel Cliff with a total of 574.
- The Pack's team score in the event was the third best among schools participating at the championships.
Smallbore Notes
- NC State struggled in the smallbore competition, as the Wolfpack's scores in the event were slightly lower than the program's average in previous matches.
- The Wolfpack completed the event with a 2291, but salvaged a great overall score due to a strong showing in air rifle.
- Kozeniesky and Ford each fired a score of 576 to tie as the best score for the Pack, while Martin tallied a total of 571.
- Freshman William Marciniak recorded a score of 568 and Pekari registered a 557 as the final member of the lineup.
