
NC State Closes Out Indoor Regular Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The sprinters, hurdlers and throwers of the No. 8 women's and No. 18 men's NC State track and field teams concluded the regular season with several impressive performances at the Kent Taylor Invite in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sunday.
Throws:
The throwers led the way in field events, winning two events and earning a combined seven top-five finishes.
SeQuoia Watkins opened the meet with a win in the women's weight throw. Watkins took first with a toss of 61'4.00", which was more than a foot better than her closest opponent.
Alyssa Dunn and Lauren Evans finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Dunn competed in the event for the first time this season, registering a throw of 53'8.25", and Evans finished the event with a throw of 53'0.25".
In the men's weight throw, Joshua Davis cracked the 68' mark for the second time in his career. The school record holder, finished as the first collegiate athlete and second overall with a toss of 68'03.75". Davis will enter the ACC Championships ranked fourth in the conference. Davis and the ACC's top-three are the only athletes this season to have thrown farther than 68' this season.
In the shot put, Dunn took second and recorded a season-best throw of 45'8.50". Evans finished fifth with a toss of 40'7.75".
In the men's weight throw Wolfpack alumni and indoor and outdoor shot put school record holder Mitchell Pope took to win while competing unattached. Pope's mark of 61'01.50" traveled almost 16 feet farther than the second-place finisher.
Sprints/Hurdles:
The NC State sprints and hurdles groups closed out its regular season with several #STATEMENT performances. Two-sport athlete Nyhiem Hines sprinted out to the ACC's fourth best mark in the 60m dash, and fellow true freshman Gabriele Cunningham set multiple PRs.
Cunningham and Alexis Perry opened the track portion of the meet for the Pack in the 60m hurdles. Both advanced to the finals with top-eight finishes. Perry took fourth in the opening heat in 8.37, while Cunningham finished seventh in 8.69.
The men also advanced two athletes to the finals from the prelims, as Josh Gandy and Dorian Williams finished sixth (8.32) and seventh (8.42), respectively.
In the 60m hurdle finals, Perry nabbed second place with a time of 8.31, while Cunningham slashed her pervious PR and crossed the finish line in 8.47.
In the men's finals, Gandy finished fifth in 8.30, while Williams recorded another 8.42 mark.
In the women's 60m dash, Cunningham continued her impressive meet, advancing out of the prelims in third place with a mark of 7.64. In the finals Cunningham tabbed another PR with a mark of 7.51, which is the Wolfpack women's fastest time in the event this season and the eighth-fastest mark in the ACC.
She also ran in the 200m dash, netting a second-place finish with a time of 25.25, which is just short of her season best in the event.
On the men's side Nyheim Hines also tallied a PR, finishing third in the prelims with a mark of 6.84. He then beat that mark in the finals, finishing second overall in 6.74 for a new PR and the ACC's fourth fastest 60m time of the season.
Shannon Patterson also advanced to the finals and set a new PR. The sophomore shaved a hundredth of a second off his previous season-best with a time of 6.93. The mark was good for sixth place.
NC State added another event win, as Quashawn Cunningham sprinted around the track in 21.68 seconds for the 200m title. The mark is just short of a season-best for Quashawn. The win marks the fifth time he has earned a top-five finish this season.
The Charlotte, N.C., native enters the ACC Championships with top-10 times in both the 60m and 200m dash. He is ranked sixth in the 60m and second in the 200m dash.
Brian Davis was the top collegiate athlete to cross the finish line in the men's 400m dash, finishing the race in 49.55. The mark is a season-best for Davis.
Multis:
Grant Rivers concluded his regular season with a mark of 7.70 in the 60m dash and a time of 8.68 in the 60m hurdles. The hurdles mark is the second-fastest time of the season for Rivers, who recently set the school record in the men's heptathlon.
