"Rough start, but our kids hung in there and I'm proud of the way they fought back," NC State head coach Wes Moore said in his postgame press conference. "We've watched a lot of film (on Boston College) and they have been in every game. They started out the season 12-1 which included a win over Purdue, and that just shows you how tough this league is. You get into ACC play and every game is a battle, and tonight was as well.
"I'm proud of the way our team hung together after a rough start and found a way to get it done."
NC State battled back from a significant early deficit in the first quarter, trailing 12-0 after the first 3:49 and at one point in the first quarter by as many as 14 points (20-6). The Wolfpack would close the gap to 10 points (20-10) at the end of the first quarter and outscore the Eagles 19-11 in the second quarter to head into the halftime break trailing by just two (31-29).
Trailing 51-50 in the waning seconds of the third quarter, Spencer appeared to put the Pack ahead with a runner in the lane as time expired to make it 52-51. Initially counted, the basket was overturned on review and NC State entered the final 10 minutes of the contest trailing by one point.
The Wolfpack responded, hitting eight of 13 shots (.615) during the final period to outscore the visitors 24-12. Wilson scored nine in the final 10 minutes while Nelson (8) and Spencer (7) scored the rest.
NC State returns to action at home on Sunday afternoon against No. 22 Syracuse. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from a sold-out Holliday Gymnasium in NC State's 11th annual Hoops 4 Hope game.
