Brown tabbed all-region, while Speaks secures honorable mention
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Julia Brown and Maggie Speaks of the NC State volleyball team have been named to the All-East Region Team, as announced Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Â
Brown secured all-region honors, while Speaks was recognized with an honorable mention. The duo collects the accolade just one week after being named to the 2016 All-Atlantic Coast Conference  (ACC) Teams.
Â
Prior to Brown and Speaks' selections, Megan Cyr was the most recent NC State player to earn All-Region honors in 2012. The program has not had more than one athlete on the team since 1988 when Melinda Dudley, Patty Lake and Volire Tisdale garnered the award.
Â
Brown turned in a fantastic junior season, as she finished the year with 489 kills – third most in the ACC and a rally-scoring era program record. In addition, that total ranks among the top 30 division I players in the NCAA and is the eighth best for a single season in program history.
Â
A native of Davidson, N.C., she helped NC State set a rally-scoring era record with 13.46 kills per set and tally the second most kills in a single season with 1,642. As a six-rotation outside hitter, Brown logged career highs with 532.5 points scored, 327 digs and 19 service aces during the 2016 season.
Â
Against Syracuse, Brown broke the rally-scoring era program record with 31 kills in the Wolfpack's five-set win versus the Orange, which is the most by any player in the ACC this season.
Â
Speaks capped her NC State career with a great senior campaign, resulting in All-ACC and Honorable Mention All-Region Honors. She finished the season with the third-most assists in the ACC with 1,148, which ranks third in the Wolfpack's rally-scoring era for a single season.
Â
The Camden, S.C., native helped the Pack end the year with a .226 attacking percentage – second best in the program's rally-scoring era and fifth best in the conference. With Speaks running the offense, NC State set the program mark for highest attacking percentage in an ACC match with a .407 clip at Clemson and later broke the mark and set the rally-scoring era record for highest attacking percentage in a match with a .468 at Virginia Tech.Â
Â
Additionally, Speaks established a rally-scoring era program record when she dished out 64 assists in NC State's five-set win against SMU, a 2016 NCAA Tournament team. She finishes her career with the second-most career assists in the program's rally-scoring era with 3,240.
Â
As a team, NC State ended the season with a 20-12 overall record and a 13-7 mark in ACC play, which breaks the program record. Predicted to finish 12th in the conference by the league's head coaches, the Wolfpack ended the year in a tie for sixth place.
