Four NC State shooters to compete in the event
RALEIGH, N.C. – Four members of the 11th-ranked NC State rifle team will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend to compete in the 2016 Winter Airgun Championship (WAG). The event begins Friday, Dec. 2 and concludes Sunday, Dec. 4.
Â
NC State Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky will take part in the event, along with teammates Lauren Phillips, Derya Pekari and Zach Eisenberg. The Wolfpack quartet will be joined by more than 375 competitors at the USA Shooting Range.
Â
Last year, Kozeniesky finished second at the event, during the process of earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.
Â
The competition includes three separate match days in Men's and Women's Air Rifle and Air Pistol, to include junior competition as well. Awards will be given upon the conclusion of each match day. This match is part one of Junior World Team Selections as well as an evaluation of possible candidates to compete in the first International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup match in India next year.
Â
The growth of WAG has been an on-going success story for USA Shooting in recent years and 2016 will be no different with action taking place at the USA Shooting range on complex, as well as temporary ranges inside different U.S. Olympic Training Center facilities. For the first time, a dedicated Finals Hall will be a part of the show, meaning a shortened match schedule and a much better competition flow for all participants.
