Wolfpack makes first trip to Alaska since 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 12th-ranked NC State rifle team treks across country this weekend heading to Alaska for a pair of matches. Friday the Wolfpack will square off against No. 4 Kentucky in a Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) match and take on the 10th-ranked host Alaska-Fairbanks Sunday afternoon.
Â
Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Eastern Time each day inside the E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
Â
The Wolfpack heads into the weekend with a 6-2 overall record and a 3-1 mark in GARC action.
Â
In NC State's last outing, the Pack picked up its third conference victory with a 4642-4632 win against No. 12 Memphis at the Hugh W. Wylie Rifle Range on The Ohio State University's campus.
Â
Senior Lucas Kozeniesky turned in a fantastic performance at that match, firing a score of 599 in the air rifle competition to break the program record and match the highest score fired by an individual in the event this season. He logged perfect 100s in his first five series and finished with a 99 on his last series.
Â
Last season, NC State had a breakout showing against Kentucky, as the Wolfpack took down the third-ranked Wildcats with a score of 4665, which was a program record at the time.
Â
NC State last met Alaska in 2013 when the host Nanooks earned the win over the Wolfpack with a strong score of 4677 at their home facility.
