NC State Defeats St. Francis 86-61

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's basketball team improved to 2-0 after defeating St. Francis College (Brooklyn) 86-61 on Sunday afternoon at PNC Arena.
Torin Dorn led the Wolfpack with 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. The Charlotte native added seven rebounds and a team-high three steals.
In freshman Ted Kapita's first appearance with the Wolfpack, he scored 17 points while shooting 7-8 from the field. Kapita added a team high eight rebounds. After being cleared by the NCAA on Friday night, Kapita brought immediate energy to the NC State lineup when he checked into the game at the 5:23 mark of the first half as he scored eight of the Wolfpack's final 10 points of the opening 20 minutes. He ended up hitting his first six field goal attempts of the game.
Kapita's 17 points are the seventh-most in a freshman debut in NC State history, while the eight rebounds rank as a tie for the fourth-most in a freshman debut in the Wolfpack annals.
Abdul-Malik Abu, Dennis Smith, Jr., and Terry Henderson all reached double figures, as well. Abu led the trio with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Smith also added 12 points and three assists. Henderson tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
NC State led the majority of the game and stretched its lead to double-digits early, going up 10 points with 12:03 remaining in the first half. The Wolfpack continued to increase its lead, jumping out to a 17-point lead with 1:51 left in the first half and entered halftime with an 11-point lead, 42-31.
The Terriers were never able to get the deficit to single digits in the second half, but were still hanging around, down only 12 points with 9:32 remaining in the game. The Pack responded with an 8-2 run over the next 2:16, extending its lead to 18 with 6:48 left in the second half. The Pack closed out the game with a 25-point lead – its biggest of the afternoon.
