NC State Defeats Pitt, Clinches Postseason Appearance

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's soccer team earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Pittsburgh Thursday night, clinching an appearance in the ACC Women's Soccer Championships for the first time since 2006.
NC State improves to 10-7-1 (4-5-1 ACC), while Pitt moves to 2-15-1 (1-9-0 ACC). In addition to solidifying a spot in the postseason, the Wolfpack has also tallied its fourth ACC victory of the season. The four wins are a first since 1995 and mark only the second time in program history the team has reached the mark The Wolfpack's 10 overall wins are the most since 2011.
Kia Rankin and Tziarra King scored their fifth and eighth goals of the year, respectively, marking 17 straight from Wolfpack freshmen.
King has now tallied a goal in the last three matches and is leading the team with 17 points.

NC State broke the deadlock early, as Kia Rankin headed in a corner with assists from Hannah Keogh and Ricarda Walkling to take an early advantage in the 10th minute. Pitt struck back with a well place shot in the 35th minute to tie the match.
NC State pressed forward in the second half, searching for the go-ahead goal throughout the game but was unable to find the elusive tally. The Pack recorded 10 shots in the second period, but was just off in the final third, which sent the contest to overtime.
In the 96th minute, King headed in the golden goal to seal the Pack's spot in the ACC Championships. Keogh provided the assist from the corner for the second time in the match.
